Adam Dunn had the hot bat with home runs in his first two plate appearances as the Reds defeated the Chicago Cubs 5-1 in their home opener in Cincinnati.

Reds righthander Aaron Harang dominated the Cubs batting order, making a disappointing beginning for the team now led by Lou Piniella.

Alfonso Soriano, who signed an eight-year deal worth 136 million dollars, managed only an infield single in four at bats. The Cubs' only run of the game was unearned.

Carlos Zambrano took the loss for Cubs.
