Demi Omole, a senior on the University of Wisconsin men's track and field team, has been named the Big Ten Conference men's track athlete of the week, the conference office announced today. He is the second Badger to earn the honor in as many weeks.
Omole was a double-event winner for the Badgers at the Auburn Tiger Classic in Auburn, Ala., last Saturday. He won the 100 meters in an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 10.22 seconds. His time is the fastest in the Big Ten this season by more than half a second and ties him for second nationally.
Omole also ran on the winning 400-meter relay at Auburn. Omole teamed with James Groce, Dan Goesch and Paul Hubbard to qualifying for NCAA regional competition in 40.64. The time is the second fastest among Big Ten teams this season.
On Saturday, the UW-Platteville Invitational begins at 10:30 a.m. with field events. The running events start at 12:30 p.m. All events will be held at the UW-Platteville outdoor track in Platteville, Wis.
