Dayne Looks to Build on Strong Season

Houston's Ron Dayne had his best performance in 5 years in 2006.

The 1999 Heisman Trophy winner at Wisconsin said it was about the Texans giving him a chance.

Dayne led Houston with 612 yards rushing last season, including a fabulous December when he had 429 yards rushing with 5 touchdowns.

His career-high 153 yards rushing and two touchdowns helped propel Houston to its first ever win over the Colts in that month.

The performance marked the first time Dayne, who had been released by both the Giants and Denver, had gained 100 yards since 2001.

Dayne today said he's happy just being able to get the opportunity to play.

Dayne started 6 games last season, but missed five and was limited in several others with injuries including a turf toe and sprained ankle.

The Texans signed former Green Bay Packer Ahman Green in March.

Coach Gary Kubiak plans to take advantage of Dayne in short-yardage situations.
