PASADENA, Calif. -- Wisconsin fans have seen some amazing moments during Barry Alvarez's 20-year association with Badger athletics.

But few moments rival New Year's Day in 1994 when Alvarez's Badger football team took the field at the Rose Bowl for the first time in 31 years. They were joined that day by 70,000 of their closest, red-and-white-clad friends, who watched Wisconsin knock off UCLA.

Alvarez guided the Badgers back to the Rose Bowl two more times - in 1999 and 2000 - and left a winner each time. He joins Ohio State's Woody Hayes as the only other Big Ten coach with three Rose Bowl victories to his credit.

Alvarez was back at his old stomping grounds Wednesday afternoon as part of a trio (former Pac 10 commissioner Tom Hansen and former Ohio State lineman John Hicks were the others) that was inducted into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame. The event's emcee was legendary college football sportscaster Keith Jackson and was held at the Brookside Golf Club at the Rose Bowl stadium.

Alvarez was introduced by Big Ten commissioner Jim Delaney. The Badger director of athletics then received a Rose Bowl Hall of Fame sport jacket and trophy before thanking his staff, family and players, as well as spinning a few tales from his days guiding the Badgers in Pasadena.

Alvarez, Hicks and Hansen will take part in the Rose Parade on New Year's Day and the group will be in the 28th slot in the parade.
