The Woodchucks put together two five-run innings and combined for 19 hits in a 13-4 win to snap the Mallards five-game winning streak in front of 6,284 at the “Duck Pond,” on Tuesday night. Travis Whitmore (Pittsburgh) and Kevin Pillar (Cal State Dominguez) led the way for the Woodchucks with four hits a-piece.

Mallards’ (11-6, 28-22 overall) starter Rusty Shellhorn (Washington St.) is saddled with the loss after starting on a short-days rest. The lefty Shellhorn (2-3) only lasted three and one-thirds innings while allowing three runs on three hits.

“Shellhorn felt good to go, but it was a matter of execution as he struggled to get ahead of counts. He failed to find his rhythm out there,” said Mallards’ Manager C.J. Thieleke.

Meanwhile, Jared Eickhoff (Olney Central) picks up the win after going five innings and allowing four runs on seven hits. Eickhoff (3-2) helps the Woodchucks (11-5, 28-23 overall) claim second place in the standings one-and-a-half games back of the Eau Claire Express (13-4, 35-16 overall).

Tomorrow, the Mallards take it on the road to Green Bay for a two game series with the Bullfrogs. Wednesday’s game with the Bullfrogs will be a 7:05 p.m. affair and can be watched on northwoodsleague.tv The Mallards will return home on Friday, July 30th to take on the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters.
