GREEN BAY - The Wisconsin Badgers are coming to Lambeau Field – where they’ll face off against one of the nation’s most storied programs.
The Badgers are set to take on Louisiana State University on Sept. 3, 2016. The UW Athletic Dept. made the long-rumored matchup official on Friday.
It will be the second game between the two programs in the next three years. UW and LSU are scheduled to play next Aug. 30 at Reliant Stadium in Houston. LSU has won the only previous meetings between the teams, in 1971 and 1972.
The winner of three national championships and 11 Southeastern Conference titles, LSU is ranked 10th in the latest Associated Press poll. Wisconsin has 14 Big Ten championships to its credit and is coming off three consecutive Rose Bowl berths.
While this will be the first time either team has taken to Lambeau Field, a total of 55 alumni of the two schools have played for the Packers. Among the 38 former Badgers to suit up for the green and gold, notable names include Mark Tauscher, Ken Bowman, Charles “Buckets” Goldenberg, Randy Wright, Cub Buck and Don Davey. Notable LSU alumni include Jim Taylor and Matt Flynn.
It’s not the first time a Badgers athletic team has appeared at Lambeau Field. In 2006, the UW men’s hockey team beat Ohio State 4-2 in the Frozen Tundra Hockey Classic.
