MADISON, Wis. -- During the last two years, Wisconsin senior running back Montee Ball has racked up almost as many honors as he has touchdowns. Monday, he added another to his long list as one of 16 players named to the semifinalist list for the Maxwell Award for the Collegiate Player of the Year.
A Heisman Trophy finalist in 2011, Ball has continued his assault on the record books as a senior. He has rushed for 1,028 yards, good for ninth in the country. His 13 touchdowns are tied for 13th nationally. For his career, Ball has rushed for 4,338 yards, most among active NCAA players.
Ball is best known for his ability to get into the end zone. He currently ranks third in NCAA history in career touchdowns. His 74 career TDs ranks behind just Ricky Williams on Texas (75) and Travis Prentice of Miami, Ohio (78).
Ball joins Ohio State's Braxton Miller as the only two Big Ten players on the Maxwell Award list.
Ball and the Badgers have three regular-season games remaining, at Indiana on Nov. 10, home against Ohio State on Nov. 17 and Nov. 24 at Penn State.
