PHOENIX (AP) -- The Milwaukee Brewers starting rotation will understandably be viewed by many as Yovani Gallardo and those other guys.

Some drastic changes since last spring have clearly left Gallardo as Milwaukee's ace.

Zack Greinke was traded during the season, and Shaun Marcum and Randy Wolf are gone as well. Chris Naverson is the only other holdover from the 2012 season-opening rotation, but the left-hander made only two starts before shoulder surgery.

Milwaukee was 10 games under .500 when Greinke left. With 22-year-old Wily Peralta and former top draft pick Mark Rogers joining the rotation after that, the Brewers had a 27-12 spurt. They finished with 83 wins.

General manager Doug Melvin says that was encouraging and gives him confidence in the rotation.
