The Minnesota Wild have agreed to terms with free agent center Jake Dowell, the team announced Tuesday night.
On Tuesday, the NHL club released the following tweet: "BREAKING: The #mnwild has agreed to terms on a two-year contract with forward Jake Dowell. Another Badger in the fold."
Dowell is a former University of Wisconsin teammate of prized NHL free agent Ryan Suter. Both men also share the same agent, Neil Sheehy. Sheey shared a flight with Wild executives to Madison to meet with Suter Tuesday afternoon. Adding to the drama is the fact Dowell, Suter & free agent Zach Praise were all teammates on the golf medal winning USA team at the World Jr. Championships in 2003-04. That squad was coached by the Badgers Mike Eaves.
Last winter, Dowell played 52 games for the Dallas Stars, producing a pair of goals.
