Friday Morning Wisconsin Sports Report

Posted Friday, September 7, 2012 --- 8:00 a.m.

Here is the latest Wisconsin sports news from The Associated Press:

MIAMI (AP) -- Josh Johnson pitched seven solid innings yesterday to lead the Miami Marlins past the Milwaukee Brewers 6-2. Johnson allowed two runs and four hits to end a career-worst four-game losing streak. Ryan Braun had a sacrifice fly for the Brewers, who lost for just the fourth time in 17 games.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Adam LaRoche hit a two-run homer last night as the Washington Nationals beat the Chicago Cubs 9-2 in a testy game to complete a four-game sweep. The benches first cleared in the fifth inning when Cubs bench coach Jamie Quirk started jawing with Nationals third base coach Bo Porter. In the sixth, the benches emptied when Chicago reliever Lendy Castillo threw inside on Bryce Harper.

CARMEL, Ind. (AP) -- Rory McIlroy is among four players tied for the lead after the first round of the BMW Championship yesterday at Crooked Stick. McIlroy, Bo Van Pelt, Webb Simpson and Graham DeLaet each shot an 8-under 64. Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh are in second place at 7-under.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Defending U.S. Open champion Novak Djokovic beat Juan Martin del Potro yesterday to reach the semifinals at a 10th consecutive Grand Slam tournament. The second-seeded Djokovic will face David Ferrer of Spain tomorrow. Ferrer advanced by bearing eighth-seeded Janko Tipsarevic.
