PHOENIX (AP) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks have claimed infielder Cody Ransom off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers.

Ransom opened the season with the Diamondbacks' organization and was claimed on waivers by the Brewers on May 23. He hit .196 with six homers and 26 RBIs in 64 games with Milwaukee.

Ransom hit .269 with four homers and 13 RBIs in 17 games with Arizona after having his contract selected from Triple-A Reno on April 18.

Arizona could use some help at shortstop after trading Stephen Drew. Willie Bloomquist also plays the position, but has a back injury.
