HOUSTON (AP) -- The Milwaukee Brewers broke an 11-game road skid by beating the Houston Astros 5-3 yesterday. Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo won his 11th game of the season after allowing three runs over seven-plus innings. Corey Hart homered for Milwaukee and Martin Maldonado added an RBI double.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- The Green Bay Packers have signed running back Cedric Benson. The veteran left Cincinnati after leading the Bengals in rushing each of the past four seasons. Benson joins a Packers running game has been plagued by injuries.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Montee Ball made his first public appearance yesterday since the Wisconsin running back was assaulted near campus earlier this month. Ball spoke yesterday at the Badgers' media day, saying he "had nothing to do" with a fight that occurred before he was assaulted. Ball sustained a concussion in the attack.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Jimmy Rollins scored on Juan Pierre's 11th inning infield single yesterday to give the Philadelphia Phillies an 8-7 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Ryan Howard homered and drove in two runs for the Phillies. Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter went 4-for-6 with three RBIs.
