MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Ryan Braun homered twice yesterday as the Milwaukee Brewers blanked the New York Mets 3-0. Aramis Ramirez added a solo home run for the Brewers, who won for the 20th time in its last 26 games. John Axford pitched the ninth for his 29th save.
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The St. Louis Cardinals scored three runs in the 12th inning yesterday to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-2. Jon Jay hit go-ahead RBI double in the frame for the Cardinals, who regained sole possession of the second NL wild card spot. Rookie Shelby Miller pitched one inning for his first major league victory.
CHICAGO (AP) -- Anthony Rizzo homered twice and drove in six runs yesterday to lead the Chicago Cubs to a 13-9 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Rizzo hit a two-run shot in the fifth inning, then belted his first career grand slam in the sixth. Pedro Alvarez had a pair of homers and five RBIs for the Pirates.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Vernon Davis caught two touchdown passes last night as the San Francisco 49ers topped the Detroit Lions 27-19. Niners quarterback Alex Smith threw for 226 yards and extended his franchise-record streak of passes without an interception to 216. Brandon Pettigrew caught a TD and Jason Hanson kicked four field goals for the Lions.
