MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Marquette rolled to an 84-63 victory over Colgate in the opening game of the Maui Invitational yesterday. The Golden Eagles never trailed against the Raiders, and led 42-31 at halftime. They took a 66-46 lead with 10:39 remaining. Colgate got no closer than 15 the rest of the way.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Brenton Williams scored 12 of his 14 points in overtime as South Carolina overcame a 17-point deficit in the second half to defeat Wisconsin-Milwaukee 82-75 yesterday. In Frank Martin's debut as Gamecocks coach, the team trailed 40-23 early in the second half. But South Carolina ended the period on a 26-12 run and tied things on two foul shots by freshman Mindaugas Kacinas to force the extra period.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Junior Ben Brust had 14 points and 11 rebounds, and No. 23 Wisconsin scored the first 19 points in an 87-47 rout of Southeastern Louisiana in a season opener yesterday. Jared Berggren led the Badgers with 19 points and fellow senior Mike Bruesewitz added 10 in a 13-minute appearance. Redshirt freshman George Marshall, starting at point guard for Wisconsin, hit a 3-pointer 13 seconds into the game to set the tone.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) -- Wisconsin running back Montee Ball has passed 1998 Heisman Trophy winner Ricky Williams for second place on the career touchdown list. Ball now has 76 career scores. Williams finished his career at Texas with 75. Travis Prentice who played for Miami of Ohio holds the Football Bowl Subdivision record with 78 scores.
