Monona Grove Rolls in Postseason Opener

Monona Grove threw themselves a "Welcome Back" party Friday night in the team's first game in the Division 3 playoffs in nine years. The Silver Eagles scored 57 unanswered points against Wisconsin Dells in their 57-7 win.

The Dells went up 7-0, but then Monona Grove came on the attack. Quarterback Brett Percy lead the offense to 17 points in the first quarter, and continued to roll in the second.

Percy put Monona Grove up 23-7 with a seven-yard touchdown run around the left side, but the running game would come alive later in the first half.

Monona Grove senior James Connor would take over the rest of the first half. Connor stalled Wisconsin Dells' drive on the Silver Eagles' 30-yard-line with an interception, and then turned that turnover into points on the next possession.

Connor increased the Monona Grove lead with a 62-yard touchdown run to put the Silver Eagles up 29-7.

Later in the first half, Connor added his third rushing touchdown of the game with a 36 yard scamper down the right side to put Monona Grove up 36-7 at the half.

Monona Grove squares off against Reedsburg in round two of the playoffs next week.
