COLUMBUS, Ohio – Junior Brittany Ammerman recorded two goals, including the game-winner with less than 15 minutes remaining to give the No. 2 Wisconsin women’s hockey team a 3-2 win over Ohio State, Saturday, at the OSU Ice Rink.
Ammerman opened up the scoring for the Badgers (23-3-2, 19-3-2-1 WCHA), scoring off a rebound on UW’s first power play to give UW a 1-0 lead with 10 minutes left in the first period.
Freshman Sarah Nurse tallied her 10th goal of the year, scoring on a breakaway five minutes into the second period to extend Wisconsin’s lead to 2-0.
But the Buckeyes (11-14-5, 6-13-5) wouldn’t go down without a fight, as OSU made a 2-1 game with nine minutes left in the second as Ally Tarr sent a bouncing puck past UW goaltender Alex Rigsby.
Ammerman collected her second goal of the game and her 20th of the year at the 6:15 mark in the third to propel the Cardinal and White to a 3-1 advantage.
OSU’s Kari Schmitt scored on a power play with less than seven minutes to go to pull the Buckeyes within one.
With less than 20 seconds to go, Ohio State thought they scored its third goal to tie the game up at 3-3, but the goal was waved off due to a hand pass.
Rigsby made 23 saves to earn her 13th win of the year.
Wisconsin returns home to face No. 1 Minnesota next weekend in Madison. The Badgers and Golden Gophers meet on Feb. 14 in a 7 p.m. contest before facing off in the Kohl Center on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m.
