Notre Dame Academy beats DeForest for state title

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Green Bay Notre Dame Academy held off DeForest 52-42 to win a second straight Division 2 state girls basketball title Saturday at the Resch Center.

Allison LeClaire finished with 24 points and Eliza Campbell chipped in 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Tritons (27-1), who never trailed.

LeClaire took over in the third quarter. She scored 11 points on the strength of two three-pointers and a three-point play. Her drive and dish set up Tess Gapinski for two free throws that gave the Tritons a 38-26 lead entering the final period.

DeForest rallied, though. Jordanna Midthun's three-point play and Kayla Goth's drive closed the gap to 42-37 with 3:22 to play. Kortni Kohl's three-pointer made it 44-40 but the Norskies could get no closer.

Cassidy Byrd and Goth each had 11 points for the Norskies (26-2), who were in the championship game for the first time.
