It had been a tough stretch to end the regular season for Reedsburg and it appeared the Beavers season would end in heartbreak in Level 1 of the WIAA playoffs. But then something magical happened and the result was one of the best finishes of the year.
Reedsburg trailed the Crusaders 10-0 at the half but opened the 3rd quarter with a TD drive cutting their deficit to 3 points. Then the defenses took over as neither team managed to score allowing Edgewood to cling to that lead when they punted the ball to the Beavers 3 yard line with just under 2 minutes left in the game.
That's when something wild happened for a team that only passed the ball when forced to do so. The Beavers engineered a 16 play 96 yard drive that still needed one more bit of magic to put them over the hump. A completion from quarterback Austin Schyvinck to Seth Douglas got the Beavers to the Edgewood 1 yard line with just 4 seconds to play. After a timeout head coach Brian Pottinger decided to go for the win and not a field goal which would have tied the game. Pottinger made a similar decision in 2008 in the division 3 state championship game. Only this time the call worked
Austin Westerwelle carried the ball in from a yard out at the clock showed 0:00 giving the Beavers a stunning 13-10 win.
Reedsburg advances to Level 2 where they'll host top seed Monona Grove.
