MILWAUKEE (AP) -- For the first time in three seasons, the Houston Astros have managed to beat Yovani Gallardo. The Milwaukee Brewers were practically eliminated from playoff contention with the 7-6 loss last night. Brett Wallace, Jason Castro and Jose Altuve all homered for Houston.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Lost amid the replay controversy of the end of the Green Bay Packers' Monday night loss to Seattle was a new offensive identity that emerged in the second half. They changed to a run-oriented team with a tough defense. Coach Mike McCarthy said the ability to adjust at halftime helped turn things around. On Sunday, they face another normally pass-happy team -- the New Orleans Saints.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The Detroit Tigers' lead in the AL Central has slipped back to one game over the Chicago White Sox. The Tigers lost to the Minnesota Twins 4-2 yesterday. Ryan Doumit had all four RBIs for Minnesota. Meanwhile, Chicago beat Tampa Bay to gain a game in the standings.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) -- The Minnesota football team is looking to go 5-0 for the first time in eight years today when it travels to Iowa for a Big Ten matchup. It'll be the first conference start for quarterback Max Shortell. The sophomore threw for 231 yards in a win over Syracuse last week.
