Seattle names Former Badger Russell Wilson starting QB

Posted: Sunday, August 26, 2012 --- 9:09p.m.

(AP) -- Rookie Russell Wilson has earned the Seattle Seahawks' starting quarterback job.

That was the word from coach Pete Carroll on Sunday night after he announced that the third-round pick from Wisconsin will start when the regular season begins Sept. 9 at Arizona.

Carroll said he's been extremely impressed by Wilson's performance, not only during training camp and preseason games, but also during minicamp and the Seahawks offseason program. Carroll says that Wilson does not seem like he's a first year player.

Matt Flynn will serve as Wilson's backup. Carroll said Flynn is disappointed after signing a free-agent deal in the offseason with the Seahawks with the hopes of being Seattle's starter.
