Big 8 champion Sun Prairie dominated fellow conference opponent Madison Memorial Friday night with a 45-20 in the first round of the WIAA football postseason.
The Cards came out firing on the first drive of the game. Quarterback Ryan Curran aired a 53 yard pass to Michael Marchese to bring Sun Prairie inside the red-zone. Running back Donte Starlin-Marriam capped an 80 yard drive with an 11 yard touchdown run to put Sun Prairie up 7-0. Starlin-Marriam finished the night with two rushing touchdowns.
Sun Prairie's defense stepped up on the ensuing Memorial possession with a huge stand. After holding the Spartans to a three-and-out, the Cardinals blocked a punt in the endzone for a safety to give Sun Prairie a 9-0 lead in the first quarter.
Two possessions later, the Cardinals would strike again. Curran finds Tripp Soma down the middle of the field for a 40 yard pass down to the goalline. Badger recruit Craig Evans pounded in a touchdown run on the next play to put the Cardinals up 16-0.
Sun Prairie faces another Big Eight foe in Madison West next.
