Here is the latest Wisconsin sports news from The Associated Press:
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Adam Wainwright pitched a five-hitter and also contributed at the plate last night, leading the St. Louis Cardinals to a 6-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. Ryan Braun hit a sacrifice fly to center field at Busch Stadium, but after the first inning it was all Cardinals with Wainwright pitching a complete game on top of an RBI double and single.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The public board teaming with the Minnesota Vikings to build a stadium in downtown Minneapolis has turned to a Wisconsin company to oversee the project. The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority has chosen Madison-based Hammes Company to serve as its representative on the project. The new stadium is expected to open by 2016 on the current Metrodome site.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Madison police investigating an assault on star Wisconsin running back Montee Ball say they've developed "several persons of interest." Police said yesterday that investigators have determined that a fight occurred a few days prior to the assault on July 27th. Police say Ball was there but there's no indication he participated in the brawl.
BLAINE, Minn. (AP) — David Peoples matched his career best with a 10-under 62 on Saturday to take a three-stroke lead in the Champions Tour's 3M Championship. Peoples, who twice shot 62 on the PGA Tour, made six straight birdies at the TPC Twin Cities to get to 10 under through seven holes in Blaine, Minnesota.
