Thursday Morning Wisconsin Sports Report

Posted Thursday, August 16, 2012 --- 4:30 a.m.

Here is the latest Wisconsin sports news from The Associated Press:

DENVER (AP) — Tyler Colvin's two-run double in the bottom of the ninth gave the Colorado Rockies a 7-6 win over the Milwaukee Brewers yesterday. Eric Young Jr. added a home run for the Rockies. Nyjer Morgan had two hits and three RBIs for the Brewers, who have lost five of their last six games.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers are gearing up to face the Cleveland Browns tonight in their second preseason game. Coach Mike McCarthy and his assistants have plenty of young players to watch during the game, as well as changing wind patterns at Lambeau Field. McCarthy says special teams players and coaches have been monitoring an expansion project to see how it will change the kicking game.

CHICAGO (AP) — David DeJesus homered twice yesterday to lead the Chicago Cubs past the Houston Astros 7-2. Starlin Castro added a two-run shot for the Cubs. Astros starter Bud Norris gave up six runs in three-plus innings before exiting the game after being hit in the foot with a line drive.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — David Freese and Allen Craig each homered last night in the St. Louis Cardinals' 5-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Rafael Furcal added a two-run triple for the Cards in the sixth inning. Arizona's Paul Goldschmidt hit a home run estimated at 456 feet, longest by an opposing player at Busch Stadium.
