MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Rickie Weeks hit a three-run homer in Milwaukee's eight-run fifth inning last night as the Brewers beat the Atlanta Braves 8-2. Travis Ishikawa added a bases-clearing double for the Brewers in the frame. Milwaukee moved within three games of St. Louis for the second NL wild card spot.

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Clayton Richard pitched seven strong innings yesterday to lead the San Diego Padres past the slumping St. Louis Cardinals 3-2. Logan Forsythe hit a solo homer and Yasmani Grandal singled home the go-ahead run for the Padres. Matt Carpenter homered for the Cardinals, who lost for the 11th time in 15 games.

HOUSTON (AP) -- Alfonso Soriano homered and drove in a pair of runs last night in the Chicago Cubs' 5-1 victory over the Houston Astros. Soriano finished a triple shy of the cycle and Dave Sappelt added four hits for the Cubs. Astros pitcher Mickey Storey left the game after getting hit in the face by a line drive off Sappelt's bat.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) -- Notre Dame is leaving the Big East for the Atlantic Coast Conference in all sports but football. The ACC says Notre Dame will play five football games annually against the league's programs, but will be a full member in all other sports.
