Here is the latest Wisconsin sports news from The Associated Press:

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Matt Carpenter hit a two-run homer after subbing for an injured Carlos Beltran and the Cardinals chased Matt Cain before a 3 1/2-hour rain delay in the seventh inning of a 3-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants last night. Jason Motte earned the first two-innings save of his career long after most of a sellout crowd at Busch Stadium had gone home.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The Milwaukee Brewers say veteran reliever Livan Hernandez and catcher Yorvit Torrealba have become free agents after refusing outright assignments to the minor leagues. The team on Wednesday also added minor league reliever Jesus Sanchez to their 40-man roster.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Stringing wins together was something the Green Bay Packers did with ease last season. This year, not so much. Fresh off their rout of the previously unbeaten Texans, the Packers head to St. Louis looking to win consecutive game for the first time this season. Coach Mike McCarthy says "back-to-back" is the team's theme this week.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee Bucks rookie forward John Henson will be held out of practice for about two weeks after suffering a left knee sprain and bone bruise in Tuesday's preseason loss to Chicago. The Bucks said yesterday that Henson will be limited to non-impact activity as he recovers. The 6-foot-11 Henson was the 14th overall selection in the 2012 NBA draft from the University of North Carolina.
