Tuesday Morning Wisconsin Sports Report

Posted Tuesday, October 2, 2012 --- 7:50 a.m.

Here is the latest Wisconsin sports news from The Associated Press:

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Carlos Gomez, Rickie Weeks and Jonathan Lucroy all homered last night in the Milwaukee Brewers' 5-3 victory over the San Diego Padres. Shaun Marcum allowed six hits in six innings as Milwaukee clinched a winning season for the second straight year. John Axford struck out the side in the ninth to get his 34th save.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- The return of the regular officials could boost the Green Bay Packers offense. The regular refs are able to spot the ball and keep play moving more swiftly, allowing the Packers to use a fast-paced tempo. Coach Mike McCarthy went into the season wanting to use no-huddle offenses more often.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee Bucks forward Luc Richard Mbah a Moute is expected to miss most of training camp as he recovers from knee surgery. Mbah a Moute underwent surgery in May, and he hopes to return early in the regular season. The Bucks opener is November 2nd at Boston.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema has been pleased with quarterback Joel Stave's poise in two starts this season. Stave threw for 214 yards and a touchdown in the Badgers' loss to Nebraska on Saturday. Wisconsin hosts Illinois on Saturday.
