Here is the latest Wisconsin sports news from The Associated Press:
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- The Green Bay Packers played without eight starters last weekend, and coach Mike McCarthy added two more players to the injury list yesterday. McCarthy says it's just part of the game, but his coordinators did acknowledge the injuries do impact planning. The Packers face Arizona on Sunday.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin quarterback Joel Stave will miss the rest of the season after breaking his collarbone against Michigan State. Coach Bret Bielema announced the news yesterday. Danny O'Brien and Curt Phillips will compete for the starting spot for the Badgers.
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Alex Gonzalez has become a free agent after coming off the 60-day disabled list. The team says Gonzalez joined pitchers Shaun Marcum and Francisco Rodriguez in choosing free agency. Gonzalez missed most of last season after tearing the ACL in his right knee in May.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin men's basketball coach Bo Ryan says he doesn't get nervous or excited when people use the word "replace" around him. But Ryan has some big holes to fill heading into the season. Point guard Josh Gasser is out for the season and forward Mike Bruesewitz is recovering from a freak accident in practice.
