CHICAGO (AP) -- Jeff Bianchi's first big league home run helped the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Chicago Cubs 4-1 last night. Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo won his seventh straight start, holding Chicago to one run and three this over seven innings. Cubs starting pitcher Travis Wood hit a solo home run in the third.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Police have arrested three suspects in the assault on Wisconsin running back Montee Ball. A police report says three 21-year-old Madison men were arrested yesterday. Ball sustained a concussion when he was attacked near campus on August 1st.

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Pedro Alvarez homered twice and drove in four runs last night to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates past the St. Louis Cardinals 9-0. Starter James McDonald allowed two hits and struck out six to beat St. Louis for the second time in the last two weeks. Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina left the game in the second after a violent collision at home plate.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Dustin Ackley belted a three-run homer last night in the Seattle Mariners' 5-2 win over the Minnesota Twins. Rookie Hisashi Iwakuma earned the victory after allowing one hit and one unearned run over six innings. Designated hitter Ryan Doumit had an RBI double for the Twins.
