Here is the latest Wisconsin sports news from The Associated Press:

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Davante Gardner scored 18 points and Chris Otule added 10 points to help Marquette hold off Southeastern Louisiana 64-53 last night. The Lions trailed 52-50 when Jeffery Ricard scored on a layup with 6:01 remaining. After the teams traded free throws, Gardner went to work for the Golden Eagles, scoring two inside hoops to make the score 57-51 with 3:16 left. Marquette clamped down on the defensive end to finally put the game away.

TOKYO (AP) -- Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Norichika Aoki has decided not to participate in next year's World Baseball Classic. The Nikkansports newspaper reports that Aoki told Japan manager Koji Yamamoto that he couldn't take part because he has to prepare for next season with the Brewers.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Ohio State players now have a special level of dislike for the Wisconsin Badgers. Both have accused each other of grandstanding after victories. A lot of that emotion will bubble to the surface when they meet again on Saturday.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The Carrier Classic will return to the USS Yorktown to open the college basketball season despite last weekend's cancelled contest between Ohio State and Marquette. Morale Entertainment President Mike Whalen says his group and the Patriots Point Development Authority have agreed to hold the event again next year. This year's men's contest between the Buckeyes and the Golden Eagles was called off when condensation on the court made it too dangerous for the players.
