MADISON, Wis. – With hockey season a month away, the 2013-14 Wisconsin women’s hockey schedule now has set dates and times for home games this season at LaBahn Arena.
Highlighting the home schedule is the anticipated return of the fourth annual “Fill the Bowl” game to be hosted on Saturday, Feb. 15, against rival Minnesota in the Kohl Center at 7 p.m. General admission tickets will be $1 and go on sale on Monday, Sept. 16.
Wisconsin returns 2013 second-team All-American Alex Rigsby in net along with All-WCHA Rookie Team member Courtney Burke on the blue line. The Badgers have a solid core of 11 upperclassmen and welcome five freshmen into the fold for the upcoming season.
The Badgers open the season with an exhibition tilt on Monday, Sept. 23, against Team Japan at LaBahn Arena. There will be free admission for the game which was originally scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 24.
Wisconsin opens the regular season on Friday, Oct. 4, as Minnesota State rolls into Madison. Friday’s meeting starts at 7 p.m., while the series finale occurs on Saturday, Oct. 5 with a 3 p.m. faceoff.
After a road trip to Minnesota on Oct. 11-12, the Badgers return home for a six-game homestand, starting with St. Cloud State on Oct. 18-19. Game times will be 7 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday. The Badgers defeated the Huskies six times last season, including twice in the WCHA playoffs to advance to the WCHA Final Face-Off.
The Badgers conclude October playing host to Lindenwood University on Friday, Oct. 25 in a 7 p.m. affair, while wrapping up the series on Saturday, Oct. 26 in a 2 p.m. tilt.
UW finishes up its homestand against conference-foe Ohio State during the first weekend of November. The Badgers will face the Buckeyes on Saturday, Nov. 2 in a 2 p.m. game, while the Sunday, Nov. 3 contest features a noon faceoff.
After its six-game homestand, Wisconsin hits the road for three series. The Badgers will take a trip to Vail, Colo., on Nov. 15-16 to face Northeastern University and Boston University, and will travel to conference rivals North Dakota on Nov. 22-23 and Minnesota Duluth on Nov. 29-30.
The final home series for the Badgers in the 2013 calendar year will be against Bemidji State on Friday, Dec. 6 and Sunday, Dec. 8. The time for the series opener is still to be announced, but Sunday’s faceoff take place at 2 p.m.
The new year opens with Wisconsin on the road at St. Cloud State on Jan. 3-4, before coming home to face North Dakota. The North Dakota series begins on Saturday, Jan. 11 with a 2 p.m. affair before concluding on Sunday, Jan. 12 with a 3 p.m. faceoff.
Following a road trek to Bemidji State on Jan. 17-18, Wisconsin returns to LaBahn Arena to play host to Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 26 at 3 p.m.
UW will have the first weekend off in February before hitting the road to Ohio State on Feb. 7-8.
The final regular season home series will be a highly anticipated Border Battle series between Wisconsin and Minnesota on Friday, Feb. 14 and Saturday, Feb. 15. Friday’s tilt takes place in LaBahn Arena at 7 p.m., while Saturday’s 7 p.m. “Fill the Bowl” game will be held in the Kohl Center. Wisconsin rounds out the regular season on Feb. 21-22 with a road trip to Minnesota State.
The first round of the WCHA playoffs will take place Feb. 28-March 2. The best-of-three series will be held at the home of the league’s top four seeds. The winners of those series advance to the WCHA Final Face-Off in Bemidji, Minn., March 7-8.
After the WCHA Final Face-Off, eight teams from across the country will be selected to play in the 2014 NCAA Tournament. The top-four seeds will host a single-elimination quarterfinals matchup with the four winners advancing the NCAA Frozen Four. The 2014 NCAA Frozen Four is hosted by Quinnipiac and will take place at High Point Solutions Arena.
