MANISTIQUE, Mich. (AP) -- Championship Wisconsin prep football coach and former record-setting Michigan State player Ronald Rubick has died. He was 67.
Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique, which is handling arrangements, says Rubick died Monday at a Wisconsin hospital. The Daily Press of Escanaba reports he had been suffering from degenerative lung disease.
The Manistique native was one of the Upper Peninsula's top football players for the Emeralds. He also set a single-game rushing record at Michigan State and won three state titles while coaching at Lincoln High in Manitowoc, Wis.
Rubick set the Michigan State record in 1962 with 207 yards rushing on 14 carries against North Carolina.
Rubick is survived by his wife, son, daughter and brother.
