Whether it's because of their location on the Southern edge of the state or the dominance of programs such as Memorial and Edgewood, it seems like Janesville's combined prep hockey program fly's under the radar for most. But 2 trips to the state tournament in the last 4 seasons and and a #10 ranking entering Monday nights Big 8 showdown with Verona should have been enough get anyone's attention.
However the match-up in Janesville for the top sport in the Big Eight standings went the way of Verona. The Wildcats scored two goals within 38 seconds of each other early in the first period.
Goalie Austin Schmid did his part in the net for Verona.
Up 2-0 late into the second period when on the power play, Joe Fiala waltzed his way thru the Bluebirds defense to score.
Verona went on the the 4-1 win to move into sole possession of first place in the Big 8 at 9-0-1 in conference.
