Bob Suter Retires as Head Boys Basketball Coach at Janesville Craig High School

Janesville Craig High School announces the retirement of Bob
Suter as Head Boys Basketball Coach. Mrs. Suter served as the Head
Basketball coach for the past 24 years. Mr. Suter taught Physical
Education in the district from 1961-2001 for a total of 39 years. He was
rehired as Craig Head Basketball coach for the 2001/2002 season. He has
dedicated 47 years to students, families and the athletics of
Janesville Craig High School.

Coach Suter holds the distinction of being inducted into the Wisconsin
High School Coaches Association Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007, Football
Hall of Fame in 2007, and Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995.

Dr. Michael Kuehne, Janesville Craig High School Principal;

It's time! That's the message you never want to hear from an icon in the
coaching ranks who is passing the baton on to the next coach for the
program. But it was those words that began Coach Suter's resignation from
Janesville Craig High School's basketball program.

"There were years of greatness in all three sports for Coach Suter and
there were lean years too. What was always there was a Coach who cared about the whole person, student, athlete, young person. Winning was
important to Coach, but never more important than the young man he was
trying to mentor into a fine young adult.

Coach was like a parent to thousands of Janesville's youth. I
feel really sad that the young men growing up in Janesville will
not have the opportunity to learn from Coach because he taught us a lot of
life lessons on the fields of competition.

I guess he's right, "It's time." But that doesn't make it any easier to
say goodbye to someone who has given his best to thousands of young men in
our community. Coach will always be a part of Janesville Craig High School. He'll always be a bluebird and cougar through and through."

Monte Phillips, Craig High School Athletic Director states;

"Coach Suter has touched the lives of many students over his 40 years.
His impact on students is not limited to the ones he has taught in his
physical education classes or coached in the athletic arena. There are an
absolutely huge number of individuals that are better sons, daughters,
brothers, sisters, fathers, and mothers because of their relationship with
Coach Suter. He has helped me be a better administrator because of his
high level of professionalism. We would also like to extend a huge thanks
to his wife Dorothy for sharing Coach Suter with us for 40 years."
