#1 Memorial takes first step, beat M-G

They have been the local rock stars of prep basketball this season. But after a slip at Big 8 rival East, the Memorial Spartans played the role of a number two on a mission. Tuesday night as the post season tipped off their back at the top of the rankings with the focus that the real prize is 3 weeks away.

Step one was a good one. Behind a team high 24 points from UW recruit Vander Blue #1 Madison Memorial knocked off Monona Grove 71-55 in their 1st round boys regional basketball game.

Blue played with a big bandage on his left wrist while teammate and Marquette recruit had similar wrapping on his right wrist. But it didn't slow down either star player. Maymon chipped in 16 points for the Spartans.

Monona Grove's Zak Manthe led all scorers with a game high 26 points.
