MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Wisconsin's high school athletic association wants a Portage County court to rule that it owns the rights to an array of ways news organizations cover prep sports.
The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association filed a complaint that The Post-Crescent of Appleton produced a live Webcast of a high school football playoff game last November without the association's permission.
The WIAA wants the court to determine it owns the event's rights including photos, video and writings of game action.
The Post-Crescent and the Wisconsin Newspaper Association are named as defendants. They were served with legal papers last week and given a few weeks to respond.
WNA executive director Peter Fox says the WIAA's claim is an "uncomprehensible overreach" of rights.
