MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Junior guard Vander Blue scored 35 points and Madison Memorial withstood a fourth-quarter rally by Germantown Thursday night for an 86-73 victory in Division 1 quarterfinals of the WIAA boys state basketball tournament.
Germantown trailed 56-38 late in the third quarter but closed the gap to 65-59 with five minutes left before Blue converted on a three-point play. The Warhawks again closed the lead to 70-64, but the Spartans ran off eight straight points to clinch the win.
Memorial (24-1) advances to Friday night's semifinals against the winner of the Beloit Memorial-Bayport game.
Michael Laubenheimers scored 16 points to lead Germantown (21-3).
Junior Tre Creamer added 18 points for the Spartans and senior Jeronne Maymon had 11.
