ELKO, Nev. (AP) -- Police in Elko say a distraught teenager from Wisconsin committed suicide after accidentally shooting another boy in the head with a handgun.

Investigators say the 15-year-old boy was visiting with family and was at another's boy home across the street when the shooting happened about 10:30 p.m. Monday.

Police say the youth had taken a 9 millimeter pistol from the glove box of his father's vehicle and was either playing with it or showing it off in a bedroom when it fired, striking a 14-year-old boy in the head.

Investigators say the younger boy's parents were home, and as they rushed into the room, the other teen ran outside and into the street, where he shot himself in the head.

The 15-year-old died at the scene.

The younger boy was flown to a hospital in Salt Lake City, where he was listed in critical condition Tuesday.

Police did not release the names of the victims nor the hometown of the Wisconsin boy.

If you own a gun, you need to be responsible. Keep it locked and in a separate location from ammunition. With rights comes responsibility. I am sorry that both families are currently faced with such a tragic event.

Got the gun out of the glove box, huh? What was that father thinking to keep a handgun, probably loaded, or at least within easy access of the ammo in a glove box of a car? Sadly it was his son, who, incidentally, seems to have known where to look, but what if it had been some other kid breaking into the car, and found the gun/ ammo? stuff like that sells on the street, or gets kept, or used in armed robberies, and if found, the serial number comes back to the father. Oh well, I guess no one will be worrying about that! As sorry as I am for the father of the 15 year old, I hope he gets arrested for storing the gun in the car, and I hope the family of the 14 y.o sues his butt for the medical bills, etc! such stupid, irresponsible storage of a gun, and now one, possibly two young lives are over before they really had a chance to start! No prom, no driv. license, no graduation, just because someone kept a gun in the car!
