Shawano County authorities say a 22-year-old man apparently drowned while swimming with a group of friends.

The sheriff's office says the group was swimming at Richmond Town Park on Saturday afternoon when the man disappeared.

Deputy Sandra Finger tells the Shawano Leader newspaper the man probably got pulled under by the current.

Someone called 911 and a dive team responded to aid in the search.

Bystander Timothy Balke of Shawano dove in and found the body, 20 minutes after the man vanished.

Emergency workers performed CPR and the man was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead almost an hour later.

Authorities expect to release the man's name after midnight pending notification of relatives.
