RACINE, Wis. (AP) -- The body of a former Racine police officer has been recovered from Lake Michigan.

Authorities say 42-year-old Marco Rodriguez was on a boat owned by a Racine County sheriff's deputy when he jumped in the water to swim and began struggling early Sunday near North Beach.

One of the five others on the boat jumped in the water to help Rodriguez, but was being pulled under as the victim struggled.

The others on the boat pulled the rescuer back, but couldn't find Rodriguez. His body was recovered about 6 a.m. Sunday by the Racine County dive team, about three hours after the boaters called 911.
