BARRON, Wis. (AP) -- Barron County authorities say a 14-year-old girl was driving the pickup truck that crashed last weekend, killing one of the two passengers.

Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said there was no question the 14-year-old from Clayton was at the wheel when the pickup went out of control south of Turtle Lake, went up an embankment and rolled over.

All three girls in the vehicle were thrown out. Seventeen-year-old Rhonda Hellstern of Turtle Lake was pronounced dead at the scene. The 14-year-old and a 17-year-old from Clayton were hospitalized with injuries.

The sheriff said the three apparently were not wearing seat belts, and alcohol and speed appear to be factors in the crash. It remains under investigation, including how alcohol was obtained by the girls.
