ELM GROVE, Wis. (AP) -- A 31-year-old worker died when he fell about 40 feet as he and other workers were cutting down a tree in a Milwaukee suburb.

The Elm Grove police department says the accident about 9:50 a.m. Friday killed Dale Simek of Trevor, who was hired to remove a large tree at a private residence.

He was about 42 feet up, working to cut the top of the tree, while two workmen stood at the ground. After they removed a large upper section, the lower section became unstable and fell.

Simek was secured by safety harnesses attached to the tree and fell.

Police say it appears Simek suffered fatal traumatic injuries from the fall.

The police department, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Waukesha County Medical Examiner's office are investigating.
