MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Gov. Jim Doyle's attorney says a judge should dismiss an open records lawsuit against the governor.

The Capital Times newspaper's suit alleges Doyle's office took too long to comply with a June 4 request for records about finalists for judge openings. Doyle fulfilled the request on July 8 about 90 minutes before he announced his picks.

Assistant Attorney General Steven Means represents the governor's office. He argues the newspaper's only legal remedy is a court order compelling release of the records, but that's moot since the governor handed the records over.

The newspaper's attorney, Robert Dreps, had no immediate comment.
