MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Madison Children's Museum has received a $250,000 grant from an independent federal agency.

The grant will go toward its $10 million project to move the museum from its State Street location to a new facility on the Capitol Square. It closes Jan. 4 to prepare for the move and is scheduled to reopen in mid-August.

The museum is required to match the $250,000 grant on a three-to-one basis.

The grant came from the Washington, D.C.-based National Endowment for the Humanities, which gave out $20 million in awards and offers to 319 humanities projects in 45 states and the District of Columbia.

The Madison museum has raised more than $8.5 million of the $10 million so far.
