MARATHON, Wis. (AP) -- At least one central Wisconsin animal shelter has been inundated with dogs because of a new state law regulating breeders. The no-kill shelter, New Life Pet Adoption Center in Marathon, has taken in 25 dogs in the last several months, but has a capacity of up to 12 dogs. The new law places tighter restrictions on so-called puppy mills.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Two men accused in a quadruple homicide could find out today whether they'll stand trial. Desmond Laster and Anthony Barnes are accused of killing a 23-year-old woman and two of her children, as well as a 19-year-old woman who helped kill the three.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A judge says three groups that support campaign finance reform cannot intervene in two lawsuits challenging Wisconsin's new law expanding public financing for Supreme Court races. The judge ruled the League of Women Voters, Common Cause and the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign cannot help the state defend the law.

UNDATED (AP) -- The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has been building nine new islands in the Mississippi River and it wants your help naming them. The islands are on a 3,000-acre backwater between Stoddard and Brownsville, Minnesota. The agency wants names that reflect the area's geology, history or fish and wildlife.
