Title: AM Weekend Anchor/Reporter

Chris Papst is an Emmy award-winning journalist who came to WMTV in June of 2007. Prior to his move to Madison, he anchored, produced and reported for "Today in Wyoming", the morning show for KCWY-13, the NBC affiliate serving The Equality State. In the nearly two years he spent there, the ratings doubled, making the 90 minute program, when he left, the most watched morning newscast in the state.

In May of 2005, Chris received his Master of Arts in Broadcasting, Telecommunications and Mass Media from Temple University. Two years prior he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Media Communication and Music from the University of Pittsburgh. During his time in Pittsburgh, Chris earned four varsity letters as a member of the Pitt Panther baseball team and wrote for the school newspaper The Pitt News. While at Temple, he reported and anchored for Owl TV’s newscast Temple Update. During this time, Chris also wrote for The Tri-County Record, a newspaper with a circulation of over 20,000 that covers three counties in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Chris was honored, in 2004, as being nominated for the 400 paper strong Journal Register Company’s Columnist of the Year Award.

Chris' work in journalism at WMTV has resulted in a half dozen awards from the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association and Associated Press, including best Live Shot, Spot News, Morning Newscast, and Documentary. In 2009, he earned two Midwest Emmy nominations: one for coverage of US Airways Flight 1549 and one for excellence in reporting. His coverage of Flight 1549 won an Emmy.

Chris spends much of his free time reading, exercising, fishing, playing the guitar and enjoying the company of his wife, whom he wed on October 15, 2005. He also spends much of his time penning his first novel, which he hopes to have completed sometime before 2010.
