Meteorologist Dan Guthrie joined NBC 15 in October 2012.
Growing up in a small town just outside of the Chicago suburbs, Dan's life long dream of becoming an actor was put on hold after his curiosity for math and science outweighed his desire to wait tables in Hollywood.
Dan decided to pursue a career in broadcasting meteorology after quickly picking up calculus and physics in high school, where he says “the weather nerd began”.
Dan graduated from Valparaiso University in 2009 with a Bachelor's degree in Meteorology with a specific focus on Communications TV/Radio.
Before heading to the Badger State, Dan spent the previous two and a half years at our sister station, WIFR, in Rockford, IL where he split his time between meteorology and reporting. But Dan jumped at the opportunity to head north because of his love for forecasting snow storms and reduced commute to the Northwoods, where he frequently takes trips in the summer.
When Dan is not at work, he makes an attempt to go golfing, fishing or boating while the weather holds up. Dan grew up a die hard Notre Dame football fan, and also enjoys cheering on his loveable losers, the Chicago Cubs. And thanks to having a roommate from Wisconsin over the last six years, he hasn't missed many Badgers or Packers game. He is also a huge movie buff and developed quite the movie collection before the “miracle” of Netflix came into his life. On his days off, you can likely find Dan slipping into the nearest movie theater... that is of course if the weather is keeping him indoors.
You can catch Dan's weathercasts Wednesday through Friday at 11a.m. and 4 p.m. as well as on the weekends.
