One was expected to be here, the other was not. But Tuesday night they both took similar paths to WIAA Sectional semifinal wins setting up a title game matchup Friday night between #1 Middleton and #6 Waunakee.
For the top seeded Cardinals it took a 4 goal outburst in the 3rd period to erase a 1-goal deficit en route to a 4-1 win over Oregon.
Panthers netminder, senior Tyler Stensaas, shutout the Cards attack through 2 periods before Middleton dominated the final 17 minutes.
In the other Sectional Semi Edgewood held a 2-1 lead into the third period. After a delay due to excess water on the ice, the Warriors tied the game on the power play when Blake Anderson snapped a wrist from the slot past Crusaders netminder Alex Witz trying knotting the game at 2.
The floodgates then opened for the6th seeded Warriors as they added three more goals leading to the 5-3 upset win over #2 Edgewood.
The win sets up a Middleton versus Waunakee Sectional Final Friday night at 8:00 pm at Madison Ice Arena.
