A man accused of killing a decorated Kenosha County sheriff's deputy during a traffic stop has been charged.

The criminal complaint says Ezeiquiel Lopez told investigators he had been drinking tequila, used cocaine and bought a pistol from a gang member.

He says he didn't stop for the police late Wednesday because he thought he'd been in an accident.

He also told them he can't recall shooting Deputy Frank Fabiano.

According to sheriff's department spokesman Gil Benn, Fabiano fired 4 rounds at Lopez during the attempted traffic stop. 3 of the shots hit Lopez' van.

He says Fabiano's back-up, a University of Wisconsin-Parkside police officer, fired numerous rounds.

Lopez then allegedly fired a half-dozen times and hit Fabiano 3 times.

Lopez is charged with first-degree intentional homicide. The judge set his bond at $1 million.

Fabiano's funeral will be held Wednesday at Carthage College.

A memorial fund has been set up at all Southport Bank locations in Kenosha County. The money will be given to deputy Fabiano's daughter.
