ASSISTANT NEWS DIRECTOR

If you answered yes to these questions, you may have what it takes to be the next Assistant News Director at WMTV, the NBC affiliate in Madison, WI.

This is a competitive news market and this opening doesn’t happen often. If you know how to produce the Big Story as well as how to create newscasts during an “average day of news” then we want to talk with you right now.

Madison is one of the top places in the nation to call home. The people in this market are educated, passionate about their causes, and expect their newscasts to be in-depth and informative. Flash and trash will not cut it here. News that matters will.

Must be able to oversee daily operations and ensure execution of content on the air, online and mobile. The best candidate will have strong news judgment and the ability to make decisions under deadline pressure. We are looking for someone who is hands-on with each newscast from start to finish, and understands and embraces the importance of original reporting.

We are HD, have an automated control room, edit on Edius 6, use iNews, have a live truck that is both satellite and microwave, have three TVU packs, and an On-Call live truck.

Qualifications and Responsibilities:

- Previous newsroom management experience
- Experience as a newscast producer and/or reporter
- Strong writing skills
- Creative thinker
- Problem solver
- Able to incorporate web and social media into news day
- Help direct special projects
- Coordinate award entries
- Coordinate election coverage

Education: Bachelors in Journalism
