On Golden Pond focuses on aging couple Ethel and Norman Thayer, who spend each summer at their home on a lake called Golden Pond. During the year the story takes place, they are visited by daughter Chelsea with her fiancé and his son. The play explores the often turbulent relationship the young woman shared with her father growing up, and the difficulties faced by a couple in the twilight years of a long marriage.

Heritage Fest

The event features music by the Soggy Prairie Boys Blue Grass Band, free horse drawn wagon rides, kids’ activities, live farm animals, a prairie walk at 2 p.m., house tours, an old fashioned threshing demonstration plus hands-on food and craft demonstrations. Learn how to make sausage, butter, ice cream and apple-cider. See the wood stove in action. Other exhibitors include quilting, darning, blacksmithing, woodworking, barrel making, chair caning, spinning, laundry and house chores, weaving, beekeeping and gardening. New this year is an Activity Guide for Kids.

Cost is $5 per person.

Schumacher Farm Park is an 100-acre open-air museum and prairie conservancy dedicated to preserving the farm traditions of the 1920s and 1930s. It is run by the Friends of Schumacher Farm Park in cooperation with Dane County Parks and the Marcella Schumacher Pendall Trust.

A celebration of cheesemaking, dairy farming, and the Swiss traditions of Green County. September 19 - 21, 2014 marks the 100th anniversary of the festival, which has taken place in downtown Monroe since 1914. Cheese Tent, Family Farm Adventure Tent, Cow Milking Contest, Old Time Copper Kettle Cheesemaking Demonstration, Arts & Crafts, Children's Parade, vendors, three entertainment stages (yodeling, alphorns, accordions, rock'n'roll, blues), dairy farm and barn quilt tours, brewery and distillery tours, food booths (deep fried cheese curds, gourmet grilled cheese, cream puffs, brats, cheesecake on a stick and much more) and Wisconsin's only parade led by a herd of Brown Swiss cows.
